We did have a coyote threat the other night. So I found myself out there brandishing a plastic step-in fence post and feeling really, really stupid, especially after hearing about a woman who ran outside to chase away coyotes from her flock with a broom stick, and the coyotes chased her back into the house! (I don’t know what happened to the flock.) I need to get a shot gun. Peaceful shepherd and pistol-packing mama. Say ‘welcome’ to schizophrenia!
The next night, I took all my dirty laundry and put it out in buckets all over the property. That was the night it rained so hard I couldn't even see out the window. So the laundry got nicely soaking... And I heard no coyotes. Whether it was the rain or the human smell, I don't know. Sometimes I think my life has become Comedy Central.
Today Louie and I finished running posi/negi electric wire at the top and bottom of the wire mesh that encloses the barn yard. I feel a lot safer, now that that is done. There really is a lot of practical wisdom in the Turkish saying, “Tie your donkey to a sturdy post, and then trust God.”
